U.S. Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers to host media briefing
on electric fish barrier

CHICAGO - The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a media briefing to discuss public safety and vessel traffic issues concerning the electric fish barrier on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at 10 a.m.

Who: Capt. Luann Barndt, Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan; Cmdr. Robert Bailey, Commanding Officer of Marine Safety Unit Chicago; and Col. Vincent Quarles, Commander of the Army Corps of Engineers' Chicago District.

What: Media briefing to discuss public safety and vessel traffic issues concerning the Aquatic Nuisance Species Dispersal barrier in Romeoville, IL.

When: Friday, August 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. 

Where: At the site of the electric barrier under the Romeo Road Bridge adjacent to the Citgo Lamont Refinery.

Getting there:

  • Take I-55 S
  • Take exit 267 toward Bolingbrook
  • Turn left at S Bolingbrook Dr/IL-53
  • Turn right at IL-53/N Independence Blvd
  • Turn left at E Romeo Rd
  • Turn left at W Edgewood Dr

Members of the media should wear appropriate clothes for wet and muddy conditions.
